Domain names are the link between your website and the internet.
Usually in a form similar to www.yourcompany.com.au or sales@yourcompany.com.au, they provide name recognition and a professional presence to your company website and email addresses.
Other types of domain names are .net.au, .org.au (reserved for non-profit organisations), .id.au (home/personal use), as well as global names which don't have the .au extension, even .nz for New Zealand.
Domain names ending in the extension .au are only available to businesses with a valid trademark, ACN, ABN or BRN and offers some form of protection against another entity purchasing your domain name and looking to onsell at an inflated price.
Domain parking is offered as a free service that allows you to purchase your domain name if you don't have a site yet, and multiple names can be purchased (ie. com.au & net.au), preventing someone else obtaining them, and linked to a single or multiple websites.
If you already own a domain name, it costs nothing to transfer management, enabling redirection to your new site.
Australian domain names cost just $88 per 2 year period and global names from $24.95 per year.
